International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated annually and worldwide on March 8th. International Women's Day has a rich history, held annually since the early 1900s - it's a celebration to recognize, fight for and stand in solidarity for women's rights. However you choose to celebrate, it is an important day to say we are here, we stand in solidarity, we love each other and we all matter.
A letter from our Executive Director, Kathy Bartlett -- As we reflect on the past year and look forward to 2017, we see the above quote as an example of the growing impact of our partners and their work with children and youth. It demonstrates the confidence of an emerging young leader who shows a clear intent to do more for others while also improving his knowledge and experience base. This seems to us to be one important way to think about success for a program aiming to create confident and thoughtful leaders. How else is progress and impact being assessed across the different programs?
"Wow, Kenya is a different place these days. I have just returned from a trip to Nairobi, with fellow GEF board member, Liz Berry Gips and Executive Director, Kathy Bartlett. We all felt a palpable shift – happily finding a vibrant, developing eco-system of support for entrepreneurs and education, with enlightened youth “giving back” to better their worlds. Here are a few highlights of what and who we encountered."
