The GEF School Partnership Program enables American school children to learn about and make a difference in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children around the world.
Most partner schools conduct book drives, gathering gently used reading materials, which are sorted and carefully considered for shipment to orphanage libraries. Partner schools host the colorful Izze-GEF trailer, which is parked at their school to store collected books. GEF staff members are available to make presentations to explain the book drives and to build awareness of the plight of orphans and destitute children.
Some partner schools come up with their own fundraising ideas to assist GEF. These school partners have hosted book fairs, sold plants and organized bake sales to raise money for GEF. The funds generated have been sent directly to the field to meet specific needs. Thousands of elementary, middle and high school students have participated in this program, collecting many thousands of books for their peers in developing countries.
