The GEF School Partnership Program enables American school children to learn about and make a difference in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children around the world.
Most partner schools conduct book drives, gathering gently used reading materials, which are sorted and carefully considered for shipment to orphanage libraries. GEF staff members are available to make presentations to explain the book drives and to build awareness of the plight of orphans and destitute children.
Some partner schools come up with their own fundraising ideas to assist GEF. These school partners have hosted book fairs, sold plants and organized bake sales to raise money for GEF. The funds generated have been sent directly to the field to meet specific needs. Elementary, middle and high school students across the country have participated in this program, raising thousands of dollars and collecting thousands of books in support of their peers in developing countries.
