Spring has finally sprung at our Boulder, CO headquarters and we couldn’t be more excited for GEF’s new growth. We’re thrilled to announce that we have partnered with Guru-G - an organization in Bangalore, India that has created a technology platform that targets teachers’ professional development. The platform is delivered through handheld devices and encourages teachers to use a range of teaching and learning strategies in their daily instruction. It includes short videos that demonstrate different techniques and facilitates regular self-assessment by the teachers. Guru-G is implementing this platform in some 350 remote, mostly rural, government, NGO or low cost private schools.
GEF’s support will enable GURU-G to develop a new pilot initiative called SUPER Girls focused on empowering girls through a set of interactive sessions that build their confidence and leadership on topics related to their own personal development and their ability/potential to address and act upon issues and problems around them. The project will leverage curated insights and content from similar programs around the world but very importantly it will be aligned to the Indian context and realities. Teachers will be trained and guided in course delivery via the technology platform which GURU-G has already created and has been implementing in some 350 rural schools to support and improve teaching and learning practices. SUPER Girls will use specially developed activities/games, the use of stories & the creation of portfolios by the girls during the planned sessions. The pilot will target 38 centers and reach some 1000 girls between 8-16 years of age.
GEF is able to support this new partner due to the initial launch of GEF Innovation Fund 1 (IF1), a new concept in which GEF will support a portfolio of education entrepreneurs over multiple years. To learn more visit: www.globaleducationfund.org/innovation
