Global Education Fund (GEF) is a nonprofit charitable organization working to see that books get in to the hands of the most needy children in the world. To date we have sent book aid to children living in orphanages and remote villages in seventeen countries.  Global Education Fund is run by one full-time employee and the support of sixty-five national and international volunteers and interns.

Founded in 1997 by anthropologist Eliza Woloson, Global Education Fund listens to the educational needs of the orphanage community first and foremost.  As a result, in addition to filling libraries in orphanages with books, Global Education Fund has sent interns to communities with high illiteracy rates, implemented formalized storytelling and reading groups and physically built libraries. Global Education Fund has sent aid to Colombia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Peru, Jamaica, and Panama, Ecuador, Honduras, Uganda, Thailand, Ghana, India, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.
